The Department's Academic Enterprise Unit is engaged in a range of collaborative activities with local business and external agencies to promote knowledge transfer and the development of the local regional economy. Key activities include:

  • Hosting events, workshops and conferences aimed at the needs of the local business community. Recent events have focused on growing business for independent retailers, female entrepreneurship and social enterprise. For more information on previous events please click on the links below:


  • Staff involvement in a number of funded collaborative projects with business including Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) and InterTrade Ireland's Fusion programmes.


  • Consultancy services in a range of specialist areas such as retailing, financial services, business planning, strategy.


  • Extensive student industrial placement programmes.


  • " Local industry sponsored student awards. Student award sponsors include First Trust Bank, Invista Textiles UK, Radisson Roe Park, Northern Health Board, Irwin Donaghey and Stockman Chartered Accountants, Skillsmart Retail, Armstrong Medical. Click here


  • A Department Business Advisory Group consisting of leading members of the local business community, representing public and private organisations and all the main sectors of industry. The members of the group have strong links to Coleraine Borough Council, Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise Agency, Town Partnership, COLLAGE and Economic Development Group. One of the primary roles of the group is to advise the School on the content of its taught programmes and to explore opportunities for collaboration and cooperation with the business community in the north coast area.   • The HEFCE funded SPEED (Student Placement for Entrepreneurs in Education) project. The project aims to give students the opportunity to improve their business skills through the development of a business idea in a supportive environment as part of their degree courses. Click here


  • The Department is a member of Coleraine Chamber of Commerce.
