The Masters in Sports Management is a new course introduced for the 2008/9 academic year.

The course has been introduced to meet an increasing demand from students and employers who recognise the need for a highly skilled management in the sports field. It aims to give students an introduction to the key areas of business, management and sports management which are essential to build a successful career in the sport industry.

The course combines the expertise of two of the University’s School of Business, Organisation and Management and the School of Sports Studies and is suitable for aspiring graduates from any academic discipline.

This MSc is the only such programme on the Island of Ireland and is designed for those who recognise the need to progress their academic study in order to embark on a successful career in sports management.

The MSc Sport Management is offered on a full-time basis and is one year in duration, starting in the Autumn Semester (September). The modules on the course will provide students with a thorough grounding in general business and management principals as well as specifics relating to the field of sports management. Students begin the course by studying towards the postgraduate diploma in semesters 1 and 2, on successful completion of this they progress onto semester 3 and the full masters qualification.

Internship
An important aspect of this course is the opportunity to take part in an internship in semester 3 for 13 weeks. This internship allows students to gain expose to the industry in a management related role and is an opportunity to put academic theory into practice.
