1. Induction (Mid September, prior to MBA commencing)

Induction is normally offered over two days and is typically an off-campus residential.  The main aim is to to help accelerate a degree of professional familiarisation and confidence amongst students and to facilitate co-working.  The Induction course can take the following form:

The first day is in two parts:

  1. an introduction to university staff and each other.  There then follows an introduction to the programme at which modules are outlined in some detail along with associated assessment procedures.  Students are encouraged to refer to important points in the MBA Course Handbook as necessary.
  2. The second part of the day is directed to an outdoor Management Development Exercise where students are divided into teams (usually 6-8 people) and set a practical task to complete.  The aim is to reinforce the practical, team working, and sharing ethos of the programme.

During the first day, students are provided with relevant advice and material, including the roles of Course Director, Studies Advisers, Module Co-ordinators and Course Handbook.

The day concludes with an evening meal attended by at least one past and one current student from the programme who recall their learning and assessment experiences on the programme and attempt to answer any queries that new students might have.

The second day concentrates on personal development and helps the student understand their preferred learning style. A range of activities and assessment techniques will be employed to ascertain. .
